I think it makes most sense to point to the wiki pages for installation instructions for ports. https://wikis.oracle.com/display/OpenJDK/BSDPort has pointers to packages for FreeBSD, etc. which have their own installation instructions.

I like the sound of that.

The other alternative for porting projects without a wiki page is to just point to their respective port pages for instructions, in case that there are any. How does this sound:
