RFR [9] 8178101: Migrate the thread deprecation technote to javadoc doc-files

As part of the ongoing doc cleanup effort, we should move the existing longstanding note on "Thread Primitive Deprecation" into the JDK repository, say under jdk/src/java.base/share/classes/java/lang/doc-files, and update the links from the Thread javadoc. http://cr.openjdk.java.net/~chegar/8178101/ The actual document has only been minimally modified, e.g. stylesheet link, etc, from the current version [1]. -Chris. Bytestacks: bytecode level diagnostic tool for JVM startup analysis

Hi core-libs, some might be aware that I've been working on startup performance, sometimes finding a thing or two in the JDK core libraries that can be improved... Initially this was mostly guess-work based on changes that were found to have caused regressions, but I've also been experimenting with a tool to more systematically visualize and analyze what's going on during startup, bytecode-by-bytecode. This has turned out to be very useful at pinpointing sources of startup regressions, and I've now cleaned it up enough to publish a first version of it: http://cr.openjdk.java.net/~redestad/bytestacks/bytecode-startup-analysis.h… I hope someone here will find this useful, and if there's interest in seeing this developed further then I hope I can find it a home in some more formalized (codetools?) project. [10] RFR: 8177631: Outdated performance advice in StringCoding

Hi, Class.getClassLoader0 was once an expensive native operation, but since JDK-6642881 was fixed it is now a simple getter, retrieving a final field injected during class load. Thus the advice in StringCoding that getClass().getClassLoader0 is expensive should be removed.
