heads up: backport of
Hi Tyler, I just want to let you know that I am about to backport https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8301998 Update HarfBuzz to 7.0.1 to 17 and subsequently to 11. Best regards, Goetz.
Hi Goetz, Thanks for the head's up. If we aren't able to fix the issue with xlclang in a way that is approved by the community, then the project will not be build-able unless we bump the compiler version to 17. That seems quite strict for jdk11. However, Matthias has a work around that seems to work well in my testing, so the risk is mitigated somewhat. It's just a matter of figuring out why it works, and carrying the patch through to subsequent HB version upgrades. Please review 😉 …. JDK-8304291<https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8304291> : [AIX] Broken build after JDK-8301998 https://github.com/openjdk/jdk/pull/13529 This fixes the harfbuzz build with xlc16. Most likely the workarounds can be removed when xlc17 is used in a couple of months .
