[OpenJDK 2D-Dev] Fixing JDK-8231556 and JDK-8214536

Hi all,

I've run into both of these issues in JDK 11 and later:

https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8231556 (Wrong font ligatures used
when 2 versions of same font used)
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8214536 (Incorrect text rendering
with fractional font metrics and transform; dupe of 8199537)

Would either of these bugs be a good candidate for a project newcomer (like
myself) to fix? I see they're both assigned to Phil Race... not sure if
Phil has already started working on them or has any insights as to where to
start digging?
