Sure, it'd save some work, especially at CPU time, but it's not a huge
amount of work. It's on the list of things to consider, but not at the
top of the list.

"Someone" was initially Andrew Dinn and me. The patch wasn't ready at
JDK 8 time. It's not a pity, it just is.
