One caveat there is that Linux distributions typically lag behind JDK 
development by a fair measure, as they usually try to build their 
packages from source code.

So the focus of Linux distribution maintainers is usually very different 
from that of upstream developers - upstream developers usually have a 
manageable set of binary dependencies to make work, so they can more 
readily try new things out, relying on the seamless magic of binary 
compatibility to make most things just work.

Distributions on the other hand, when faced with toolchain transitions, 
tend to have a much larger task on their hand, as they need to re-boil 
the ocean from its source molecules, metaphorically speaking. For a
