Without looking at the program some more, it's hard for me to make some 
sense of these numbers. I'm surprised that you don't see any difference 
when using unbounded segment compared to regular ones. I wonder if the 
gap you are seeing is due to the JVM warming up, rather than peak 
performances being worse. Have you tried measuring peak performance with 
e.g. JMH? I would not expect to see 20% difference there...
