Although technically retired, Concordia University allows me to teach one ContEd course of no more than 30 hours each year. That course given online, Introduction to Programming with Java, is coming up in January. I plan to revamp it beginning with some of the concepts from JEP 495 and focus on problem solving more than code construction in at least the first two of ten classes. Fortunately, non-credit ContEd allows me some freedom to experiment with the curriculum. This will be the first time I won’t have to tell my students in the first class to ignore public, static, class, String[] args, and what the heck does System.out mean. I do have to hope for sufficient enrollment.
