Subject: OpenJDK Governing Board update: Observers

I'm pleased to announce that last week the Governing Board voted [1] to
invite three individuals to participate in Board meetings as Observers:

 - John Duimovich (Java CTO & Distinguished Engineer, IBM),
 - Andrew Haley (Java Team Lead, Red Hat), and
 - Georges Saab (VP Java Platform Development, Oracle),

Observers are welcome to both listen and contribute to the conversation
in Board meetings, but they do not have voting rights.

announce the creation of the Build Infrastructure Project [2,3] following
the Build Group's decision [4] to sponsor it.  Kelly O'Hair will serve as

Subject: Project proposal: JDK 8

Per the interim governance guidelines for Projects [1] I hereby propose
the creation of a new Project, JDK 8.  The primary goal of this Project
will be to produce an open-source reference implementation of the Java
SE 8 Platform, to be defined by JSR 337 [2].

I propose that this Project be sponsored by the Build Group [3] and that
I serve as the initial Moderator.

week [1], with an accompanying Q&A document [2].

Please send questions, comments, and suggestions on this second draft to
the gb-discuss list by 15:00 UTC next Thursday, 2 June 2011.  If no major
changes are required in response to feedback received by that time then
a ratification vote will be held shortly thereafter.
