I hereby propose the creation of the ThreeTen Project with Roger Riggs as the Lead and Core Libraries as the sponsoring Group.

As discussed earlier [1], the goal of the ThreeTen Project is to integrate the JSR 310 Date and Time API [2] Reference Implementation (RI) into JDK 8 [3]. Currently, JSR 310 is hosted on SourceForge [4] and the source code is hosted at Github [5]. The ThreeTen Project will contribute the JSR 310 RI, specification, and tests to OpenJDK. This Project depends on other OpenJDK Projects such as Project Lambda and other related internationalization updates.

The JSR 310 public discussion list [6] will continue to be hosted on SourceForge. The development of the specification, RI, and tests will continue on Github and be periodically merged into the ThreeTen Project.

The proposed Project Lead is Roger Riggs, a co-spec lead of JSR 310 with Stephen Colebourne and Michael Nascimento Santos. Roger has been working in the Core Libraries Group to facilitate the integration of the JSR 310 RI into JDK 8.

The initial committers will be: Stephen Colebourne, Sherman Shen, Roger Riggs, James Gough, and Richard Warburton.

Votes are due by 7:00pm UTC on Wednesday, 5 September [7].

Only current OpenJDK Members [8] are eligible to vote on this motion. Votes must be cast in the open by replying to this mailing list.

For Lazy Consensus voting instructions, see [9].

Thanks!
Iris Clark
