Hi!
In March 2023, GitHub confirmed their commitment to require all users who
contribute code on GitHub.com to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) by the
end of 2023 [0]. In anticipation of this change, write access to all
repositories under github.com/openjdk will require 2FA beginning at 15:00 UTC
Wednesday 2023/11/01 (Wed 1 Nov 8:00AM PDT) [1].
The majority of OpenJDK's Authors, Committers and Reviewers [2] have already
enabled 2FA as strongly recommended in the Skara documentation [3] so they
will see no changes; however, there are a few who are not using 2FA yet. If
you are an Author, Committer, or Reviewer who has not configured your GitHub
account for 2FA prior to 1 Nov, you will lose write access to
github.com/openjdk repositories. You will continue to be able to fork a
repository to your personal account and create a local copy via clone. Write
access will be reinstated once you configure 2FA for your GitHub account.
See this GitHub Docs page for instructions to determine if your account uses
2FA or to configure it following GitHub's latest recommendations:
https://docs.github.com/en/authentication/securing-your-account-with-two-factor-authentication-2fa/configuring-two-factor-authentication
Thanks,
Iris
