Build problems on Ubuntu 8.04

One thing that would be a great initial first step would be an inventory 
of all the
tools and commands needed for OpenJDK, together with suggested references
of where to find the tools. I'm thinking this would be a great reference 
on the
OpenJDK website somewhere.
