We still need the 32 bit portion of Solaris, to support running in 32bit 
mode, but the reason to build them separately and do the overlay is gone.

So go for the extra credit!

You'd need support from the install group to redo the packages 
(collasping the SVR4/IPS 32/64 packages down to just SVR4/IPSpackages)
