We moved to 7u7 so that all platforms (including the Mac) would be using the same boot jdk and
it was a fairly reliable one on all systems.
Changing the boot jdk is not something we like to do very often.
We probably failed to advertise this change very well.
I'm working on the README-builds.html file now for jdk8, should be pushing in a new version soon.
