If you install subversion, you get file, and there are other things that (if installed) will pull in subversion (e.g., trac).
Similarly if you install one of the Gnu Fortrans, you get /usr/local/gcc, version 4.8.0. Oops.

Installing stuff on system paths is not what I want.
