boot JDK not recognized for building JDK8

Versions:
tip of JDK8 from Mercurial
Debian GNU/Linux unstable/sid
OpenJDK 7 with javac 1.7.0_51 installed from distribution package. javac is in the execution PATH.

The configure fails with a message that it does not find the JDK.
Then running by:
Path/To/configure --with-boot-jdk /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64
produces:
Invalid configuration `/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64': machine `/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk' not recognized

I searched  https://bugs.openjdk.java.net  and found nothing.
What knowledge or suggestions do you have?
