TFT, however I get the following compilation error when trying to build on
s390 (31 bit) hardware ...

gmake[2]: *** No rule to make target
`/home/foreman/sandbox/jcl-bin/jdk/gensrc_x11wrappers/sizes.31', needed by
`/home/foreman/sandbox/jcl-bin/jdk/gensrc/_the.generated.x11'.  Stop.

hence my question.

I suspect that I ought to be raising and fixing an appropriate defect since
we do actually observe the expected 'Generating X11 wrapper' message on
other non-cross compilation platforms - having read the makefile and all
its' very helpful comments, I infer that I should expect the same behaviour
on our 31 bit s390 platform also. If you confirm my nference, then I will,
of course, raise the defect in order to track the defect its' progress.
