Can't build demos on Windows 8.1

What happens then when you type "make java.desktop"? Is java.desktop not 
built?

Are you using an updated version of cygwin? Is "make" your cygwin make?

Without any logs (from e.g. configure and make) or more information, 
there's not much we can do to help.
