The crash has gone since WSL v0.61.4 . According to [release note](https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/releases/tag/0.61.4), it has fixed memory corruption in `WSLENV` - it works fine to me. It is worth to try it (You can update via MS store).
(However wslpath spec looks like changed, and it breaks fixpath behavior. So I've sent PR for it as #9357 )
