I'm not sure this is correct. There is a difference between WSL1 and WSL2 in that files we generate needs to be in a Windows or WSL directory. I think it was important that the temp dir was in the WSL place for WSL1 and in a Windows location for WSL2, or if it was the other way around. I'm currently on vacation and I don't remember the full details, but this PR sounds a lot of alarm bells for me.

I'm also curious as to why the current solution do not work for you. There is no real information in the bug report on why the failure occurs or why this helps.
