Ultimately, a democratic process doesn't tend to turn out good language
designs. The best approach is to have a benevolent and skilled language
designer drive the process and make the final decision. I don't know how
Sun intends to run the process. Sun hasn't yet put someone with the right
profile in a position to drive closures.
I don't work for Sun. I only have control over the specification and
prototype I've been working on. I have no idea how it lines up with Sun's
plans. Personally, I like the idea of using a keyword here, but that kind
of decision should be taken for the language as a whole rather than for a
single feature. Until someone at Sun engages me about these issues, I
prefer not to do that in the spec.
Therefore, I'm going to leave things as they stand for now until we have
more information about how Sun intends to run the process.
Cheers,
Neal
