RFR: CODETOOLS-7902711 defpath upgrade needed for Python 3 compatibility

Hello

I'm not a Reviewer in CODETOOLS, but as an Author I can say the fix 
looks good.

Tested OK using hg 2.6.2 (Python 2.7.5), so I confirm the old path still 
works.
