OpenJDK fails to compile hadoop 0.23.1

I think this might be cause by an inference bug [1] that got picked up 
from an early JDK 7 version (as OpenJDK 6 is a 'child' of OpenJDK 7). It 
would be great if you could paste it a code snippet that recreates the 
problem.
