No, this decision is made, and I see no compelling reason to reconsider
-- and the points you make here are not new input (in fact, many the
points you make were central to the decision to remove it!)
I'll just say that most of the reasons we have for for removing it are
completely aligned with your motivations for wanting to keeping it -- we
have bigger, better plans for _, that are more consistent with how it is
used in other languages, but that are inconsistent with its use as an
identifier.
If we could have outlawed it as an identifier outright in 8, we could
have done some of these things in 8 -- but we couldn't, so there's a
window where you have to live with less now to get more later. Sorry.
