this.encoding = encoding != null ? encoding : nativeCharset;

I am not familiar with `JLine`, but if it is working in a Console, it should refer to `Console.charset()` first.
As to `JdiInitiator`, not sure I understand the situation. Would you mind providing some examples that would cause problems?
