RFR: 8319560: Reformat method parameters in the FFM API [v2]

> This PR proposes to reformat some method parameters in the FFM API. The proposed changes are a bit opinion based eve though there are some underlying principles.

Per Minborg has updated the pull request with a new target base due to a merge or a rebase. The pull request now contains two commits:

 - Merge master
 - Harmonize method parameter layouts
