Not really. The benefit of dropping it is quite small, and there might be use cases where it helps.

But I think we should perhaps be more explicit in the documentation that it is not obvious that it helps performance, and encourage testing before enabling it. And perhaps even print a warning in configure if you enable it that you need to check that it helps.
