I've been told by several native speakers that both "content" and "contents" work, but the latter is preferable. My personal view is that "contents" feels more natural. I think if it's updated here in the javadoc, then updating the JEP would also be a logical conclusion.

However, if the decision to use "content" comes from the JEP, then I'd say stick with that.
