I have made a patch to move the multi-byte read/write access code to ByteArray, and have VarHandle delegate to it instead: https://github.com/openjdk/jdk/compare/master...liachmodded:jdk:cleanup/bytearray?expand=1
I am currently running it through tier 1-5 tests. Will create a PR if the tests look good.
