RFR: 8287788: reuse intermediate segments allocated during FFM stub invocations [v10]

Matthias Ernst has updated the pull request incrementally with one additional commit since the last revision:

  * use slicing allocator for alignment guarantees
  * also provide alignment for frame allocation
  * verify stack order
  * only lock if VT @ root
