I am withdrawing this PR for now and marking the bug as a duplicate of [JDK-8351188](https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8351188). Although we could workaround the issue in the test, it is not causing normal mach 5 tests to fail (since they don't run with --enable-preview), so I think it is best to wait and see how this issue is resolved first.
