Hi Joe, Dalibor,
I had a similar interest in this project. For one, as I also commented on
your blog about this, it seems an ideal opportunity for community
involvement with a clear target and fairly low-hanging fruit. I'm assuming
that making JDK7 a JDK6 implementation is largely a matter of getting it to
pass the JDK6 TCK and not include any superfluous packages/methods/etc. from
JDK7. Such cleanup work (rather than fresh development work), obviously
with appropriate guidance, would seem to be ideal introductory stuff for a
FOSS project, as has been shown by the janitorial tasks on other projects
such as Linux and WINE (the latter being my own stepping stone into FOSS
development many years ago). However, from your blog, I got the impression
that this was instead just something that again would appear from Sun as a
complete product. What are your thoughts on this?
Cheers,
