Firstly, thanks everyone who voted for me in the Governing Board
election. I'm very encouraged by the support, and I'll do my best for
everyone to keep things on track. As ever, please contact me if there
are any issues you'd like the GB to discuss. Some of the most
interesting and productive discussions we've had have been as a result
of messages members have sent.

I've had my head down ever since the GB election working on a big and
rather intricate patch to fix a performance problem in HotSpot. As
often happens, it took rather longer than I expected to get it
finished, which is why I haven't posted until now.

In between test runs I've been thinking about what's so special about
OpenJDK. One obvious thing is that it's really important: much of the
world, or at least that part of it on the Internet, runs on Java. We
have millions of users, so we really have to get it right.

[ Warning: the next paragraph is going to sound like outrageous
flattery, but it's true. So there. ]

The main about OpenJDK thing for me is the sheer joy of working with
such a dedicated and diligent bunch of people. Your level of care and
attention to detail in this project is remarkable, and it's something
more than I've ever seen before. Thank you, everyone who reviews my
patches, gives advice, and generally encourages me. I hope I can do
the same for others.

I'm very happy to work on this project, and honoured to be in a
trusted role.
