I'm the 8u lead.
8u is basically done, and our job is to protect its stability. Having said
that, we want to keep 8u going on changing environments, so build changes
aren't forbidden. They'd have to be unintrusive and not affect anything else.
Bear in mind that changes should first be applied to more recent releases.
Also bear in mind that no one working on 8u is going to test in your
environment, so things might break for you.
