Thanks for the additional suggestion.  From our investigation, Apache Pony Mail is currently incubating, and the latest release appears to be 0.11 from 2019-04-20.  Pony Mail focuses on browsing and searching mail archives and relies on Mailman 3 or other mail list system for active list management.  We didn't really see any significant benefits of using it over Mailman 3.
