from what i understand   the missing ASM is all thats needed,  I tried to port 
the solaris ASM to Linux but it is beyond my skills.  though i also saw some 
parts of code that are assuming SPARC is only built for solaris.  until  we 
get the optimised port done.  this will get things started.  Gary has done an 
awesome Job.
