On a somewhat related sidenote, I should point out that the NetBeans team is working on GNU/Linux packages out in the open at http://wiki.netbeans.org/NativeLinuxPackages and on the 
http://installer.netbeans.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=linux-packaging
mailing list. There has been quite some talk about Fedora on the list recently, you may want to check it out, and see if that wouldn't make
the VisualVM inclusion in Fedora simpler.
