At the moment the patch only fixes the compile issue for me. I am doing this
for the ARM target. I can't get it to run yet but it is likely that this is a
linking problem (again). Unfortunately these things are difficult to debug. It
takes some time to recompile everything. :|

I'm on it.

In the meantime Matthias could report whether the proposed patch makes it work
on Ubuntu's supported architectures.
