I put it up on quantum (for review if needs be), but I think the best
solution here is probably to recommend only using 2.9 as it is only used
for the stage1 compiler, and is not really needed at all if using recent
icedtea (and presumably recent gcj) to build icedtea. The problem, at
least for distro maintainers, will hopefully go away once icedtea-1.10
is out the door. Any hints as to what the bug is in older gcj so that it
can be sidestepped in the future?
