icedtea can't run applet

I'm sorry if this is the wrong list for this question.

Iceweasel/Icedtea won't execute a Java applet that other browsers/plugins can.  When I use iceweasel/icedtea to visit http://ndt.atla.net.internet2.edu, the applet is a grey box.  Iceweasel reports the following errors:
