Not deliberately, maybe some weird bugzilla glitch.

It looks to me that it is actually because of the weird netx build rule that
apparently includes the wrong source version. So it was a latent bug that
was just exposed by this security fix.

I don't agree with your priorities (we shouldn't make fixes on release branches
that break working configurations). But since you maintain the branch and not
I. OK. Lets keep it closed. You are definitely right that there are workarounds
available.
