Great to know that you do not experience this bug using a bug-free opengl
driver interface.

for what i can find sun jdk do not use opengl by default,
http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.5.0/docs/guide/2d/new_features.html#ogl
this are probably why you only experience this using openjdk that do use opengl
by default.

can you check if removing noexec from /tmp (in /etc/fstab) resolved this issue
on your setup when using the nvidia driver?
