Thanks for reporting the bug.

Yes, having netx icons and names may be confusing for the user.

The plugin is not associated with that desktop file. Making this change will
cause icedtea-web to fall back to the default icon used by the jre for java
applications (which on some distributions, should be
/usr/share/icons/default/[somesize]/java.png). Arguably, that's even better.
