If Icedtea-web is the plug-in component for OpenJDK upstream, its name should be openjdk-plugin !

Yes it would help. In two instances:
When you do 'yum install openjdk7* ' to install all packages with names
beginning with "openjdk7..."
And also for users who search for packages by name on the GUIs for package
managers (ie Fedora's Add-Remove programs)
