That version of IcedTea is no longer being supported. Could you try updating to
a newer version (icedtea6-1.11 or icedtea7-2.2 for example) and try again? 

I've tested 6-1.11 and 7-2.2, both run the server fine and do not crash when I
connect via the client. Please reopen the bug if the problem continues. Thanks
for filing it!
