Is this necessary? The bug was marked fixed because the reported bug is indeed
fixed by the new parser in 1.5 and no iconv workaround is needed. If there are
any examples of 1.5 still failing to this issue then it's worth adding the
-encoding switch, otherwise it seems like a lot of effort to backport this to
1.4. Maybe worthwhile though, up to you.
