Yes it is a bug that the jvm crashes instead of displaying a warning, this is
fixed in OpenJDK 8

we may want to backport this changeset to fix the issue in OpenJDK 7

PPC64LE is a full OpenJDK version.
No-one have claimed that every JVM shall support all XX options and all
optimization techniques.
