I've reproduced this on the same machine in a Fedora 23 chroot, using
java-1.7.0-openjdk (borrowed from Fedora 20) to build. This leaves several
possibilities.
* Hardware incompatibility (it's POWER7, should work)
* Hardware fault (seems unlikely, failures are consistent)
* Bad kernel version (it's 3.12)
* Bad kernel configuration (it's configured for Gentoo)
* Dependencies are too new (icedtea 2 is normally built for RHEL 7?)
The latter seems most likely so I will try to build under CentOS 7.
