another java 8 strangeness

I had built all of graal with java 8 and except for the aforementioned CompareAndSwap tests, all our other tests were passing.

I wanted to use igv.  But the GUI would not start.

But when I went back and built graal with java 7, mx igv seemed to work fine.
Is this a known problem?
