Hello everybody,
Just to introduce myself, my name is Nicolas Grenier and I'm a 34 years old
guy with a good knowledge of Java essentially for server side applications.
I've developed a little in C / C++ some times ago. The last time it was to
play with the BeOS driver development model (trying to do an audio driver)
or just to do a little GUI application to make my hand on BeOS development.
I would like to try to help on porting OpenJDK and Hotspot on Haiku. I have
not a good knowledge of Makefiles and build process but I hope to be able
to help in C/C++ development especialy for porting the Hotspot VM.
I've checked out the OpenJDK source tree under my BeOS R5 (netserver) box
following recommendations from Bryan Varner but I have a question: on the
requirement to build OpenJDK 7 (for Linux) it is stated that we need at
least gcc 3.2.2 and a bootstrap JDK from the previous release. So I wonder
how we will be able to build Hotspot under BeOS without having both? Or is
it necessary to compile everything under Linux first?
Best regards,
Nicolas.
